Are You Just 'Rockin' Up?

Are You Just 'Rockin' Up?

February 18, 20242 min read

As I was driving home on Tuesday evening, like millions of others, I was saddened to hear the breaking news that Radio DJ Steve Wright, had suddenly passed away.

Steve’s radio shows have entertained me over four decades.

Two days earlier I’d listened to his ‘Sunday Morning Love Songs’ show on Radio 2.

I could listen to Steve for hours.

One lady on social media said, ‘He was the sound of my life’.

I couldn’t put it any better.

I loved his voice.

I loved his humour.

I loved his wit and his charm.

In an interview, Janey Lee Grace who worked with Steve on his show, paid tribute to him.

She said “He was a perfectionist. When he went on air it was effortless, seemingly”.

“But he really, really cared about what he put out there, he didn’t just rock up and put a record on – he really cared about every single second of the show’’.

“During my time working with Steve he always fought hard for the shows to be relatable. He really cared that everything we ever did was completely relatable to real people”.

Steve’s success was no coincidence.

And it got me thinking about what you could learn from Steve’s success as a business owner.

If you think of your business as a radio show, you need to be like Steve.

You can’t just rock up and put on a metaphorical record.

You have to work hard at it.

You need to really, really care about the experience your business delivers to your audience.

You need to do the planning.

You need to apply the thought process to everything you deliver.

You need to come up with ideas that relate to your audience.

That’s what Steve did with his show, and that’s what you need to do with your business.

That’s what will deliver success for you.

Have a great week.

Mark.

RIP Steve Wright.
